Albert Street North Overpasses over Ring Road Replacement Project
The Southbound and Northbound overpasses on Albert Street North were both built in 1975 and are now in very poor condition. While the overpasses underwent major rehabilitation in 1990 and minor repairs in both 2006 and 2015, their ongoing deterioration is raising concerns about their ability to safely carry heavy loads. The overpasses have deteriorated to a point where replacing the superstructures (everything above the foundations) is more cost-effective than further repairs.
When completed, this project will deliver two fully refurbished overpasses that will safely support Regina's transportation network for decades to come.
Project Outcomes
The following improvements will be made:
- The new structures will be raised to reduce future over-height hits.
- Much of the same foundation will be reused and the overpasses themselves will be shorter, reducing both capital and future maintenance costs.
- The new overpasses will be built using modern construction methods and materials which will provide a longer service life than the original 50-year-old structures.
- Barriers and guardrails will be upgraded to a higher safety standard.
Construction Timeline

2026 – Albert Street N Northbound over Ring Road
Investment
Total estimated project cost is $17.6 Million (including engineering, construction, applicable taxes).
Upcoming Restrictions
- Starting March 24, traffic across the overpasses will be limited to single lane traffic in both directions for the duration of 2025
- For the duration of work in 2025, the northwest loop ramp will be closed (see below)
- Work requiring full closure of Ring Road will be limited to night and weekend work to reduce daytime traffic disruptions.
- Traffic restrictions and lane closures on Ring Road will be in place intermittently for the duration of the project.
