Visitor Spend in Regina Surpasses Pre-Pandemic Levels
Tourism Regina is pleased to announce a significant boost in overall visitor spending, with a 24 per cent increase from January to October 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.
"We are thrilled to see such positive growth in Regina's tourism sector," said Jennifer Johnson, Deputy City Manager for Communications, Service Regina and Tourism. "This success is a direct reflection of the dedication of our community, the commitment of our partners, and the increasing demand of Regina as a travel destination.”
Visitor spending is forecasted to surpass $625 million in 2024, marking the first time since the pandemic that Regina’s visitor spend has exceeded pre-pandemic levels.
The city’s hotel occupancy rate also saw an increase in 2024, rising to 56 per cent from
54 per cent in 2023, nearly reaching pre-pandemic levels of 57 per cent.
"The increase in visitor spending and hotel occupancy reflects Regina’s strong market resurgence and growing reputation as a premier event destination. The Regina Hotel Association remains committed to driving revenue growth by strategically attracting high-impact sports and business events that deliver lasting economic benefits. Our hotel partners are essential in ensuring visitors have exceptional experiences that contribute to the city's ongoing success,” said Sandra Jackle, President and CEO, Regina Hotel Association.
This increase, along with a 16 per cent increase in airport passenger traffic (681,998 passengers in 2024), further solidifies Regina’s recovery and growing appeal as a tourism hub in Saskatchewan.
Regina hosted numerous events in 2024 including the 2024 Montana’s Brier, Queen City Marathon, and Canadian Western Agribition.
Looking ahead, Regina is set to host major events such as the 2025 Skills Canada Competition and the 2025 Vanier Cup, further strengthening its position as a leading event destination in Western Canada.
