Update on Fire at Wheat City Metals
Regina Fire & Protective Services (RFPS) crews have been working diligently through the night to contain and extinguish the fire that continues to burn at Wheat City Metals.
There continues to be no threat to the public and there have been no injuries related to the fire. RFPS continues to monitor smoke conditions and wind direction. Regina residents will be made aware of any concerns accordingly. We ask residents and drivers to continue staying away from the site.
“Our main goal through the night has been to keep it contained so it does not spread further. A deep-seated fire in a pile of that magnitude will take time,” says Deputy Fire Chief, Gord Hewitt. “We have two crews, eight firefighters, assigned to the fire and there are folks on scene attempting to remove debris from the pile to assist with extinguishment.”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. We appreciate the ongoing cooperation of the public and we thank our fire crews for their continued efforts.
