The City of Regina is Building a Vibrant Community with a $32-million Revitalization of Dewdney Avenue - Traffic Advisory - Impacts along Dewdney Avenue between Albert Street and Broad Street
Starting the week of April 28th, the City of Regina will begin its $32-million, two-year construction project to revitalize Dewdney Avenue. This project will help create a more vibrant community through the replacement of aging underground infrastructure, a new road surface, widened sidewalks, improved lighting, multi-purpose outdoor spaces, a tree canopy and landscaping.
“The Dewdney Avenue Revitalization project will improve transportation routes and roads, prioritizing safety for pedestrian and drivers, while promoting active lifestyles and citywide connectivity,” said the Honourable Dan Vandal, Minister of Northern Affairs, PrairiesCan and CanNor, on behalf of the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities. “This project will accommodate the City’s growing needs and will pave the way for a vibrant and sustainable future, benefiting both residents and businesses in the years ahead."
The Dewdney Avenue Corridor Revitalization is a major project that will transform Dewdney Avenue between Albert Street and Broad Street into a more aesthetically pleasing and vibrant corridor for the public to enjoy with improved pedestrian and driver safety.
“Dewdney Avenue is a signature route in Regina,” said Minister of Government Relations Don McMorris. “The community will benefit from the needed revitalization of this crucial corridor. This project will provide long-term viability and improved access to the area while making it a more desirable tourist destination. Investments like these are crucial to building and protecting a future growth in Regina and Saskatchewan.”
The work on Dewdney Avenue is a part of “The Yards” Railyard Renewal Project, funded by the Government of Canada, the Government of Saskatchewan and the City of Regina.
“By updating aged infrastructure and investing in placemaking, the Dewdney Avenue Corridor Revitalization Project will pave the way for future growth at The Yards and enhance connectivity between our Warehouse District and Downtown,” said City of Regina Mayor Sandra Masters. “The City of Regina thanks the Government of Canada, the Province of Saskatchewan and Regina’s Warehouse Business Improvement District for their partnership and support in improving this key corridor.”
Work on this project for the 2024 construction season will be completed in multiple phases. Drivers should expect regular closures, lane restrictions and speed reductions along Dewdney Avenue between Albert Street and Broad Street. These restrictions ensure the safety of drivers, pedestrians and workers within the construction zone.
The first phase of construction is planned to begin the week of April 28th and includes lane restrictions between Albert Street and Broad Street. The City will advise of additional traffic restrictions as work progresses. Watch for signs, use caution and visit Regina.ca/roads for up-to-date traffic restrictions.
While construction will limit parking on Dewdney Avenue, drivers can still park along the north-south streets throughout the Warehouse District. The City will also be providing parking on the Yards site throughout construction, There will be access and crosswalks to this temporary parking site at both Scarth Street and Hamilton Street.
