The City of Regina Celebrates National Indigenous History Month with the Introduction of New Cultural Programming
The City of Regina is celebrating National Indigenous History Month in partnership with Indigenous artists and community groups, by offering new programs and art installations during the month of June:
- Buffalo Futurism
- An augmented reality experience created by artists Joely BigEagle-Kequahtooway, Taylor McArthur, Rene Dufour-Contreras, Kistin Ballantyne, acâhkos calf child-dubois, Evie Johnny Ruddy and Common Weal Community Arts Inc.
- An unveiling event will take place on June 18, 2024, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.at Māmowimīwēyitamōwin Park (located west of Regent Pool).
- Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Centre – Star Blanket, Lakota Origin Story
- A star blanket will hang on the wall at Neil Balkwill Centre over the month of June, in acknowledgment of National Indigenous History Month.
- The blanket will be accompanied by a written origin story presented to the City of Regina by Elder Wayne Goodwill.
- North Central Community Association Mural
- Local Indigenous artist Geanna Dubar will be working with North Central Community Association and the City of Regina to install a mural on south side of the Rainbow Youth Centre.
- Geanna Dunbar will be engaging with youth in the community of North Central in the creation of the mural.
These programs are part of the City of Regina’s commitment to collaborate year-round with local community groups through cultural partnerships and projects that strengthen the cultural presence of Indigenous communities in Regina.
