Sidewalk Snow Clearing Reminder Help Create an Accessible City for All
The City of Regina reminds residents to clear snow and ice from sidewalks. Grab a shovel and help make sidewalks accessible for your neighbours, whether they’re on foot, using a mobility device or pushing a stroller.
Snow and ice must be shovelled to the edges of the sidewalk, as close to the concrete as possible to create a flat, even surface. To help with icy sidewalks, the City offers free sand/salt mix to aid residential property owners in providing traction. Visit Regina.ca for sandbox locations.
Most property owners throughout the city need to clear sidewalks around their property within 48 hours following a snow or ice event. Properties located within Schedule B of The Clean Property Bylaw are required to clear sidewalks within 24 hours. This area is primarily located within the Downtown.
If City staff find a violation, they will issue a Notice of Non-Compliance to the property owner to clear the sidewalk within a specified timeframe. Our goal is to work with property owners to achieve voluntary compliance and we encourage property owners to contact us if they are facing challenges in meeting the deadline. If the sidewalk remains uncleared, the City will perform the work and the costs will be applied to the property owner’s taxes.
Regina’s sidewalk snow clearing regulations came into effect on January 1, 2022. Sidewalk snow clearing is a provision of The Clean Property Bylaw.
