Sewer Network Expansion Will Reduce the Risk of Sewer Backups and Accommodate Growth
The City of Regina has begun a multiyear project to reduce the risk of sewer backups and prepare for growth by expanding the City’s wastewater network. This project will help prevent sewer backups in Southwest Regina and reduce wastewater bypass events during rainfalls. This project will add additional large diameter wastewater pipes to increase the City of Regina’s wastewater capacity.
This project includes the installation of a large diameter sewer line running 4.5 km from the McCarthy Pumping Station to Regina Avenue. Between July and November this year, work will primarily occur within A.E. Wilson Park.
Beginning on Monday, July 29, there will be some traffic restrictions for drivers using McCarthy Boulevard. The southbound lanes between Brunskill Place and Dewdney Avenue will be closed and two-way traffic will move to the northbound lanes. These restrictions will ensure the safety of drivers and workers in the construction zone. The City will provide advance notice of all traffic restrictions as work progresses. Watch for signs and use caution. For up-to-date traffic restrictions, residents can visit Regina.ca/roads.
Access to Rick Hansen Optimist Park may be affected by this project as well. The City will be working with the contractor to ensure continued safe access to Rick Hansen Optimist Park during pipe installation. Regular updates on this and other parks in Regina can be found at Regina.ca/parks-recreation-culture/parks/
