Public Works Week May 19 - 25
Celebrating Public Works Week: Advancing Quality of Life for All
As Public Works Week approaches, the City of Regina is gearing up to honour the hard work and dedication of our public works teams. This year’s theme is ‘Advancing Quality of Life for All’.
Public works employees do critical work for the City of Regina and its residents by operating our water and waste systems, completing important construction work, maintaining vital equipment and keeping our roads safe, just to name a few. From May 19 to May 25, we celebrate all the work they do to keep our city running smoothly.
“Our public works teams are the foundation of our city’s operations," said City of Regina Mayor Sandra Masters. "In recognition of their valued contributions, we have officially proclaimed May 19-25 as Public Works Week to celebrate the unsung heroes who work diligently to deliver the core services that our residents rely on every day.”
This year, we are excited to announce a special event on May 23 to mark the occasion and invite the public to join us for an open house in the afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Public Works Yard, 1075 Albert Street. The event will host residents and nearly 300 pre-registered school children from grades 2 -4 to help them learn about the magic behind our city’s daily operations.
One of the highlights of the open house will be the opportunity for children to see the various pieces of equipment used by our dedicated teams. From traffic lights to street sweepers, children will have the chance to learn about the vital roles our public works staff play in maintaining our city’s infrastructure.
Our public works volunteers have curated engaging activities for children, ensuring a fun and educational experience for all. Kids can participate in interactive activities such as filling their water bottle at the water tanker, playing the waste sorting game to learn about recycling and composting, and even trying on personal protective equipment (PPE) at the photo booth.
This event not only celebrates the contributions of our public works teams but also aims to inspire the next generation of community leaders and stewards. By opening our doors to the public and engaging with young minds, we hope to foster a deeper appreciation for the vital work done by our public works professionals.
Bring your refillable water bottle to 1075 Albert Street and join us between 1 and 4 p.m. to celebrate Public Works Week as we showcase the dedication of our hard-working public works teams.
