Free Street Parking Downtown Now Starts at 5 p.m.
The City of Regina has introduced changes to paid street parking in the Downtown and Centre Square neighborhoods to encourage people to spend more time in the downtown area and support local businesses. Effective immediately, free street parking at metered parking spots will start at 5 p.m. – one hour earlier than before.
"We’re making it easier for people to enjoy what downtown Regina has to offer," says Mayor Chad Bachynski. "By adjusting parking meter times from 6 p.m. to 5 p.m., visitors and residents alike can explore, shop and dine without worrying about plugging the meter after 5. It’s all about creating a more inviting, vibrant atmosphere for people to enjoy after work hours."
Previously, free street parking in the Downtown and Centre Square neighbourhoods started at 6 p.m. Regular paid parking in the Downtown area continues to start at 8 a.m. from Monday to Friday and parking continues to be free for up to two hours on Saturdays and all day on Sundays.
The Downtown and Centre Square neighbourhoods are the only neighbourhoods in Regina where street parking is metered and monitored by the City of Regina.
The change to free street parking hours received approval at the City Council meeting held on April 9, 2025. The change will be made official upon final approval of the related bylaw, but parking enforcement officers have already implemented the change.
