Emergency Alert System Launched in Regina
Regina residents now have quicker access to important public safety information during emergencies. Regina Fire and Protective Services has launched notifynow, a mass notification system designed to warn residents of nearby threats to health, safety or property, and provide essential updates in the aftermath of extreme weather.
“Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of residents is our top priority,” says Mayor Chad Bachynski. “Launching the notifynow public alerting system will empower our community to stay informed and take necessary precautions when it matters most. I encourage everyone to register for this important tool online.”
“notifynow aligns with our broader efforts to ensure timely, accurate, and effective communication with residents during emergencies and critical incidents,” said Fire Chief Layne Jackson.
The system will be used to provide public safety information to residents in the aftermath of extreme weather. It also notifies subscribers of evacuation or shelter-in-place orders, major fires, city-wide service disruptions, boil water advisories, tornado touchdowns in residential areas and nearby warming/cooling spaces during blizzards and extreme heat waves. notifynow will issue notifications in real-time to help residents stay safe and protect their property.
notifynow will complement SaskAlert, which issues alerts province-wide, by sending local updates. Residents have to sign up in order to receive text, call, or email notifications. notifynow is localized and residents must register to receive alerts on the City of Regina’s website. Signing up is free and subscribers can choose how they receive alerts, including text messages, emails, or calls. Visit Regina.ca/notifynow for more details and to sign up.
