City Turns Brown Carts Blue Your next blue cart could be a repurposed brown cart with a blue lid!
The City of Regina has a cost-savings and environmentally friendly way to repurpose its growing collection of 360-litre brown garbage carts. Many residents have traded in their 360-litre brown carts for a smaller 240-litre cart following the introduction of the food and yard waste service. The green cart program allows residents to divert food and yard waste from their garbage carts into compost.
The City is focused on waste reduction and recycling to help extend the life of the Fleet Street Landfill and protect the environment. “Repurposing the carts is a simple way to make the most out of carts we already have on hand while avoiding the transportation and re-processing costs if we returned them to the manufacturer instead,” said Janet Aird, Manager of Program Development & Delivery.
The City will repurpose the surplus 360-litre brown carts by adding a blue lid and recycling stickers. These new carts will be deployed to neighbourhoods that have pending replacements starting this summer.
