Causes of Fires that Led to Double Fatalities Determined
The causes of fires on December 9, 2023 at 848 Rae Street and December 20, 2023 at 2103
Winnipeg Street, which both led to the fatalities of two individuals respectively, have been
determined.
Regina Fire and Protective Services (RFPS) investigators have determined that the fire on 800
block of Rae was caused by tampering with electrical distribution equipment and overloading an
electrical device. RFPS is working in collaboration with the Technical Safety Authority of
Saskatchewan (TSASK) - Electrical Division and Regina Police Service on further investigation.
RFPS investigators have determined that the cause of the fire that occurred on 2100 block
Winnipeg Street was incendiary, or intentionally set. RFPS is working in collaboration with
Regina Police Service to support the ongoing investigation.
All RFPS information has been turned over to the Regina Police Service and no further
comment will be provided by RFPS or the City of Regina as further investigations are underway.
