2024 Construction Season Wraps Up
Now that Ring Road is fully open and lane restrictions have been removed, the City of Regina’s 2024 construction program has officially wrapped up.
This year, the City invested $231 million in a number of transportation, water, wastewater, drainage, facilities and parks and recreation projects. The main areas of investment included:
- $16.8 million to improve 13.7 kms of residential roads;
- $13.6 million to improve the condition of 7.1 kms of major roadways;
- $52.1 million for water, wastewater and drainage programs to ensure the City can continue to rely on our water systems for many years to come;
- $88 million for the Water Network Expansion Project. This project will prepare the City for future growth while maintaining current water service levels for residents, businesses and fire services; and
- $32 million to both renew and build a number of City facilities and recreational spaces.
“The City of Regina’s investment in our community infrastructure is necessary to prepare for growth and build a more vibrant community,” said Kurtis Doney, Deputy City Manager of City Operations. “We made a lot of progress on several major projects this year including the Southwest Sewer Upgrade, Water Network Expansion, and the Dewdney Avenue Revitalization Project.”
The City also completed a number of projects this year to improve both traffic and pedestrian safety, including:
- Renewal of over 13 kms of sidewalks;
- Renewal of over 19 kms of paved and gravel alleys;
- Construction of 1.4 kms of new multi-use pathways;
- Installation of traffic calming curbs, zebra crosswalks, flashing school zone signs, intersection signals along with several new or renewed pedestrian crossings;
- Establishment of Cathedral Community Safety Zone;
- 13th Avenue lighting upgrades;
- Installation of new street lighting on Victoria Avenue East; and
- Expressway lighting upgrades along Ring Road.
City crews maintain infrastructure year-round to keep our community healthy and safe. In addition to snow plowing and ice control, winter work often includes traffic signal upgrades, water and sewer infrastructure repairs and preparing for the next construction season.
