Water Meter Upgrades Continue Project Moves into Ward 3
The City of Regina’s water meter upgrade project continues to make significant progress and is on track to finish by 2025. Water utility customers in Ward 3 will receive a letter introducing the project, followed by an information sheet from the contractor, Neptune Technology Group, explaining how to schedule a meter upgrade appointment.
To date, more than 40,000 meters, or over 50 per cent, have been installed throughout the city. The new meters will collect water use information, enabling customers to manage and conserve water, and help detect leaks.
Soon, customers will be able to access a new online customer experience system. This system will allow customers to access account information, view and understand their household water use, and benefit from electronic notifications about planned water outages and consumption alerts for high water use, saving customers water and money.
The Water Meter Upgrade Project is making significant environmental contributions by eliminating the need for meter reading vehicles that emit carbon dioxide (CO2) during drive-by meter reads. The new system is expected to reduce community CO2 emissions by an estimated 10 tonnes per year.
