Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Expand this section to read our frequently asked questions.
What are the Usual Hiring Process Timelines?
- Recruitment Duration: The recruitment process for any role usually takes about 4-8 weeks.
- Initial Contact: Applicants under consideration are typically contacted within 2-4 weeks of the closing date. If you are not contacted within 4 weeks, you may not have been selected for the screening process and will be notified once the file is successfully closed.
- Pre-Screening and Assessments (Testing): You may be contacted for pre-screening questions and additional assessments before the first formal interview. We do not use AI to select our candidates; every application is reviewed by our team. A combination of Talent and Hiring Managers conduct the screening process. Some departments and positions have specific assessments that must be completed as part of the selection process.
- Interviews: There are typically 1-2 interviews, which are behavioral in nature. Please familiarize yourself with the STAR Method and visit our Interview Tips section for further guidance.
- Reference Checks: Reference checks will be conducted following the interviews.
- Offer Contingency:
- Internal candidates: an updated Criminal Record Check may or may not be required for union positions, out of scope and job changes. Some employees may already have one on file.
- For external candidates: the job offer is contingent upon a satisfactory Criminal Record Check. If you have a criminal record, please still apply, as your application will be reviewed. The decision will depend on the severity and timing of the offense, as well as the type of role.
- For all applicants (internal and external): Verification (picture or scanned document emailed in) of post-secondary education, certifications, trade certificates, or any updates to your education or certifications listed on your resume is required.
Is a Cover Letter required?
- It's not required, but highlighting your relevant skills, particularly in leadership roles, will likely be beneficial.
Are you an internal applicant on leave?
- Make sure your candidate login profile has your personal email address in the "Profile Information." Then, return to “Login with Employee Personal Email" and apply with that account.
How do I check my application status and what does it mean?
- On your candidate profile page, under the “Jobs Applied” tab, you can see the status of your applications. "Under Review" indicates you're still being evaluated, while "In Progress" means you're being considered for an interview.
- If your status doesn't change, it means you may have not be selected to move forward in the screening process and once the role has been filled, you will notice "Closed" as a status update.
NOTE: You can only update or upload a new resume and add additional documents to your application for an open job while its status is "Application Under Review."
